INTERVIEW with Adolfo López
Can you explain to the audience your career?
My career began 20 years ago, making short films, music videos and films for television, one day a company hired me to make films for TV, and after 6 years I partnered with an actress Liz Diaz to make a low-budget film, which Someone saw it, and they opened the doors to independent cinemas in the USA, and from there we started making independent films. Now we have some movies in commercial cinema and in film festivals and platforms.
How many years have you been making movies?
About 10 years
Why did you start making movies?
One day I saw the Tom Cruise movie Top Gun, and from then on I knew I wanted to be behind the cameras.
Tell us a little about your project. What will the audience be able to see in your film?
The audience will be able to see funny situations, supernatural beings, human conflicts and someone fighting to rescue the love that humanity has lost.
Why did you do this project?
Because I have the need to tell people a story of love, of hope, and tell them that angels and the spiritual world exist.
One of the problems some directors encounter is directing actors and dealing with some actors, especially in the amateur world. How do you see this topic? What kind of work do you do with them?
At first it was difficult to empathize with actors because I was also a novice, but later the actors and I became very close, and now it is very comfortable to work with many of them because we are practically great friends.
A good movie takes care of all departments. But normally we can not allocate all the resources to have a good photography or spend a lot of money on sound post production or budget to hire actors. In your project what % have you allocated to. I don't just mean money but time as well. Of 100% of the time/money, what % did you dedicate to each department?
-Direction:
-Photography
-Sound
-Postproduction
-Work with actors
-Art direction/locations:
We are an independent production, so we did not have the desired budget for each department, but I dedicated myself 150 percent to each department, even though it did not correspond to me, and I was present even in post-production, dedicating day and even part of the night to it.
If you could go back, what would you change about this project? (1 thing only)
I would extend one more day of production
What are you happiest about this project?
The final result, seeing the story complete, seeing the audience's reactions in the test presentations, how they laugh and how they are emotional when watching the movie
Make a wish to the movie gods. What do you ask?
Make another 1000 more films and each one with a bigger budget (laughs)
What movie would you have liked to direct?
Tom Cruise Top Gun…
What kind of cinema do you like? Genre, directors, actors?
I love genre films, horror films, slasher films, supernatural themes and aliens.
Imagine that all the movies are going to be lost. If you could save 3 movies, what would they be?
What a difficult question, I would like to save 3000 at least. My three movies would be The Matrix, Stoker's Dracula and Young Guns (And Top Gun)
If you have more projects underway, can you give us a bit of information?
I am preparing a film about a glamorous female fashion designer who casts single men to find the love of her life and I am writing a script about a female secret agent comedy.
